What is BroncoJobs?

  • BroncoJobs is a web-based, password-protected, job-referral system for students and alumni.  It is a tool for students to find on-campus (including Work-Study) and off-campus employment opportunities and internships.
  • BroncoJobs is a way for employers to advertise career, student-employment, and internship opportunities for Boise State Students and alumni.

How can BroncoJobs help you?

Advertise your student-employment jobs on BroncoJobs.

  • Post your job opportunity directly into BroncoJobs.
  • Students apply directly to you per your instructions in the job description.

What do you do when you are ready to hire for a Work-Study-Funded Position?

  • Ask the student if they have a Financial Aid Work-Study Award.  The student must have been awarded Financial Aid Work-Study for the fiscal year in which they will be working.  A student cannot be hired into a position unless they are eligible for Boise State student employment.  See the section on "What requirements does a student need to meet?" below.
  • Make sure that funds are available in your department.  To hire a student using Work-Study funding, your department must have requested and been given a Work-Study allocation by Financial Aid.  (Requests for a Work-Study allocation should be made through the Financial Aid Office.)
  • Submit a "Work-Study Employee Action Form Request" - http://career.boisestate.edu/SEWorkStudyEmployeeActionFormRequest.htm.  Career Center staff will verify award status and eligibility of the student, complete the top section of the Work-Study Employee Action Form, and e-mail the Work-Study Employee Action Form to you.

You will be asked to provide the following information on the request form.

    • Student Name
    • Student Number
    • Date Student Will Begin Work
    • Your Name
    • Your Extension
    • Your GroupWise Email Address
    • Your Department Name
    • Your Department's Allocation Number:
      • This is the number associated with your department's Work-Study allocation.  This 5-digit number (it may have a hyphen and a 3-digit suffix) is different from your local or appropriated account number.  If you do not know your Allocation #, please contact your Dean or Department Head who should have this information.  Use of this allocation account number should be authorized by your Dean or Department Head to insure money is still available.
    • Your Department's Backup Account Number:
      • The supervisor/department must monitor the balance of the student's award and your department's Work-Study allocation.  If either drops to zero, the backup account will be used to pay any additional student wages.
  • Complete your section of the Work-Study Employee Action Form, sign and submit it to Human Resource Services on or before the first day of employment.  Failure to submit this form two weeks prior to the effective date may result in a delay in pay.
  • Instruct the student employee to complete the I-9, W-4, and direct deposit paper work in Human Resource Services (Admin. 218) on or before the first day of employment.  If the I-9 form is not completed for a new hire prior to the effective date of the appointment, the student must not work.
  • Review the "Student Employment Handbook for Supervisors" - http://career/boisestate.edu/SEHandbook-Supervisor.htm - for additional hiring information.
  • Monitor the balance of the student's award and your allocation.  If either drops to zero, the backup account will be used to pay any additional student wages.  One tool for monitoring your Work-Study usage is your department's Work-Study report.  Using the Work-Study report is important since a student might also be working another Work-Study job, which will be using some of their award.  Access to this report is given to administrative staff in the office of your Dean or Department Head.  Please contact the Financial Aid Office with questions.  This report should be only one method for monitoring your usage, since there are occasional inaccuracies in the report.  It is advisable that you keep your own records to compare to this report; please report any differences to Human Resource Services and Financial Aid for resolution.
  • Request a new Work-Study Employee Action Form for a student who is continuing to work into a new fiscal year - this form must be completed before that student works in the new fiscal year.  The award fiscal year ends with the last full-pay period in the fiscal year, so the new fiscal year might start in late June.
  • Change the wage or separate the student employee with the "Employee Action Form for Work-Study Students" - http://admin.boisestate.edu/hr/Forms/workstud.pdf - found on the Human Resource Services website under "Forms."
    • Note: this is a different form from the "Work-Study Employee Action Form" and the "Employee Action Form for Non-Work-Study Students."

What do you do when you are ready to hire for a Non-Work-Study Position?

  • Make sure the student is eligible for student employment.  A student cannot be hired into a position unless they are eligible for Boise State student employment.  See the section on "What requirements does a student need to meet?" below.
  • Print an "Employee Action Form for Non-Work-Study Students" found on the Human Resource Services website under "Forms" - http://admin.boisestate.edu/hr/Forms/eafform.pdf.
    • Note: the Career Center does not process the hiring forms for non-Work-Study positions.
  • Complete this form and return it to Human Resource Services (Admin. 218).
  • Review the "Student Employment Handbook for Supervisors" for additional hiring information - http://career.boisestate.edu/SEHandbook-Supervisor.htm.

What requirements does a student need to meet?

  • Credit hours in which a student need to be enrolled (taken from taken from the Boise State Policies - Section V Personnel - Position Definitions).

In order for a Boise State student to be hired as a student employee, s/he must be enrolled at least half-time (currently six (6) credit hours for undergraduates and five (5) credit hours for graduates).  Contact Human Resource Services at extension 1616 if you have any questions.  Students who are employed prior to enrollment (i.e. during the summer - May ** through August **, 200*) must meet the "intent to enroll" criteria.  For continuing students, intent to enroll means the student has registered for the next semester.  For new or returning students, intent to enroll means the student has a current admission status for the next term.

For Work-Study employment, a student must be registered for classes for the current or next semester.  Students attending Boise State University during only the summer session are not eligible for employment under the Work-Study program.

  • Hours a student can work (taken from the Boise State Policies - Section V Personnel - Position Definitions.)

When school is in session a student employee may work for no more than 30 hours per week.  When school is not in session and during summer a student may work more than 30 hours per week. (International students can only work 20 hours per week - see below.)

The above weekly work hour requirements may be appealed by sending a letter of justification to Human Resource Services.  A committee consisting of representatives from the Provost's Office, Affirmative Action, Career Center, Financial Aid, and Human Resource Services will make a determination on the request.

A student who is graduating and not continuing as a student cannot work after the last day of the semester.

Students attending Boise State University during only the summer session are not eligible for employment under the Work-Study programs.

  • Regulations for International Students

A Social Security Administration policy affecting international student employees went into effect on October 13, 2004.   Any international student applying for a Social Security card must have a job or a job offer in hand before they apply for the SSN.  When applying for the SSN, the student will need a letter of work authorization from the International Programs Office AND a letter from the campus employer.

It is important that employers across campus realize that international students CAN work at Boise State University without a SSN.  Human Resource Services allows them to be employed while they wait for the SSN application to be processed.  Most students receive the SSN within 2 weeks of applying.

Please contact Christy Babcock-Quintero, International Student Advisor, 426-3652, any time you have questions or concerns about your international student employees.

"International students admitted to Boise State University on a F-1 or J-1 visa, may be authorized for on-campus employment.  F-1 and J-1 students are all admitted through International Admissions, and all of them need to receive employment authorization from the International Programs Office (IPO) and a letter of employment eligibility from IPO.

Students who have permission to work will receive a form "International Student Authorization for Campus Employment" signed by the International Programs Office.  Authorized students may work a maximum of twenty hours per week while school is in session (according to Immigration and Naturalization Service guidelines), and up to full time during breaks between semesters.  International students must qualify for student employment according to the number of credit hours they are taking.  For questions contact International Programs - http://www.boisestate.edu/International."
