Practice Interview Training

A practice interview with a professional in the Career Center allows you to sharpen your interview skills.  You may choose a videotaped or a non-videotaped practice interview.  Choosing the video interview allows for a play-back period where you and the staff member can see and critique the actual interview.  Suggestions will be given to assist you in presenting yourself at your professional best.  If you choose not to be videotaped the staff member will provide an oral critique of your responses.  The videotaped, practice interview provides the best opportunity for a complete critique of all aspects of you as an interviewee.

This service is available to enrolled Boise State students and to Boise State graduates.  Schedule an interview at the Career Center by calling 426-1747.

PRACTICE INTERVIEWS

Please allow yourself 60 minutes for your interview training.  If you choose to do a videotaped-practice interview the first 15 minutes will be a simulated interview.  Next, you and the interviewer will review the videotape and critique your interviewing skills.  The interviewer will offer you some helpful suggestions and strategies regarding the interviewing process.  If you choose not to be videoed the interviewer will ask you typical interview questions followed by an immediate critique of your answer to that question.

Because each interview is different, as is each interviewer, we cannot anticipate every question you will be asked nor simulate every interview situation.  The most important aspect is to be prepared - know yourself and research the opportunity and the organization and/or program.

The following will help you make the most of the practice-interview process:

  1. Please complete and submit (electronically or drop it off at the Career Center) the practice-interview questionnaire at least one day prior to the interview.  Please Do Not submit an Interview Questionnaire until after you have scheduled an interview appointment at the Career Center by calling 208-426-1747.  Select the appropriate questionnaire below:
  1. We recommend that you submit (electronically or drop off at the Career Center) a resume with the questionnaire.  If you are submitting the questionnaire electronically state in the comments section that you are emailing your resume directly to us (career@boisestate.edu).
  1. You should dress the part because it adds to the realism of the interview and allows you to see how you appear to the interviewer.
  1. Please review the sample questions.  Practice out loud so that when you answer questions during the interview, your responses will flow smoothly.
