Application Procedures
Guidelines
for beginning the application process
Career Center registrants can access job listings through the Career Centers
web-based system, job-referral
system --
BroncoJobs. If you need help with any aspect of your job
search, staff members at the Career Center are here to assist you.
Education Majors looking
for K-12 teaching, counseling, and administrative openings can view job listings on BroncoJobs.
Not all school
districts, including not all Idaho School
Districts, list their jobs with the Career Center for posting on
BroncoJobs, but BroncoJobs is one resource that you should use.
In addition to you searching BroncoJobs for jobs that match your interests
or certifications, the system allows you to set up a search and request the
system to email you when a job is listed that matches your search criteria.
Occasionally we will have school district representatives come on campus to
recruit. Notices of these on-campus interview opportunities will be announced on
BroncoJobs as well as at
this site - On-Campus Interview Schedule.
At the time of student teaching, you
should begin the process of establishing a reference file with the Career
Center. If you did not receive these forms from the Career Center
representative who spoke at your education seminar, you can get them here -
Education
Reference File Forms.
Addresses of school districts and their job
listings are available on the school districts or State
Department of Educations' web sites. Conduct an internet search to
locate these or click on the link on our
Education Employment
Resources web page.
The
Education
Packet for Boise State Graduating Students & Alumni contains
information related to the job search, including sample cover letters and
resumes and what services the Boise State University Career Center can
provide. And
If you did not receive
the American Association for Employment of Education's Job Search Handbook for Educators, stop by
the Career Center to pick up your copy.
There are significant differences among
school district's procedures. The Boise and Meridian Districts do not
always publicize their vacancies in time for you to apply before the
deadline. Avoid missing their deadlines by applying directly to them
as soon as possible. Complete their application process, which usually
includes resume, district application, reference file, and copy of
transcripts; then schedule an appointment for the screening interview.
Applicants, who have successfully completed their application process,
including their screening interview, will be in a position to be considered
for future openings. Be aware
that districts will begin hiring as early as March for fall openings.
District application procedures and job listings are usually posted on their web site.
For more employment options, consider all education avenues - public
schools, private schools, charter schools, boarding schools, etc.
Another valuable service offered by the
Career Center that you might want to consider is a
practice
interview. Call the Career Center to schedule an appointment.
Shortly before graduation and occasionally thereafter, we will send you an email
requesting an update on your job-search status. Please promptly
complete and submit the questionnaire to keep us updated on your employment
status and any changes in your address, telephone number, geographic requirements,
etc. These
updates also enable us to respond quickly and accurately to school districts when they
call to determine if we have registrants available in specific fields. When you
accept a job offer or are no longer looking for employment, please notify us
immediately by completing this Career
Status Questionnaire.
The Career Center is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Please contact us if you have questions
or would like to set up an appointment to
discuss any facet of the job-search process.
